Refuting the heresies of Dr. Hugh Ross
Introduction Rebuking errors is not being Divisive - It is commanded by God Is the age of the earth a trivial matter? What specifically is wrong with Dr. Ross's apologetics?
Progressive creationism is a compromise with evolutionism that among other things, denies the plain interpretation of the scriptures concerning the creation of the universe, of life and of man. Perhaps the person most well known today for promoting these ideas is Dr. Hugh Ross. There are serious problems with Dr. Ross's Bible interpretation. He is leading a great many Christians away from the truth in these matters. The impact this is having on the church today is significant.
This page is not intended to be a personal attack on Dr. Ross. It is intended to provide the reader with important opposing views to Dr. Ross's teachings. We encourage you to read the links below with an open mind, and a prayerful heart. We also encourage you to pray for Dr. Ross that God will one day reveal the truth to him about the heresies he is promoting in his apologetics.

Dr. Ross claims that young earth creationists who oppose his teachings are being "divisive". Consider this quote as an example:
"Much as circumcision divided the first-century church, I see the creation date issue dividing the church of this century. As circumcision distorted the gospel and hampered evangelism, so, too, does young-universe creationism." 1
Some well-meaning Christians who write to us sometimes side with Dr. Ross on this point. They claim that we are personally attacking Dr. Ross. The implication is that we don't have any right to criticize the apologetics of other Christians including Dr. Ross, especially someone as "sincere" as he is. As with all matters like this, we need to turn to the Bible to see what guidance God has given us. In this case, God's commands to us are clear. We are to forcefully speak out against serious heresies of any kind, including those promoted by Dr. Ross. Consider these Bible verses:
Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2 Timothy 4:2
He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
Open rebuke [is] better than secret love.
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him.

The second most common complaint we hear from some people who e-mail us comments concerning our stand on Dr. Ross is why are we "making such a big deal about the age of the earth"? They go on to say that knowing how old the earth is isn't a requirement to being saved. It is therefore, in their minds, a trivial issue not worth arguing over. The reality is that our concerns about Dr. Ross go far beyond the issue of the age of the earth. They're very serious doctrinal issues that in some cases rise to the level of heresies. There are also concerns about some of his scientific conclusions. Here are a few good links that help to explain why Dr. Ross's teachings need to be vigorously opposed:
